The aim of plant disease management course focus on to reduce the economic losses caused by plant diseases. The course syllabus design as strategies the disease management methods by recognition of pathogenic life cycle, disease epidemic, and importance of field condition, economic condition and skill or knowledge of handling the field will be carried out by lecture and case studies. This knowledge will enable the students to be competent technically to avoid economic losses by plant diseases in the agriculture sector.

Course Synopsis

This course will highlight the importance of turfgrass in landscape management. In this course, students will also be taught on identification of their species and varieties and management practices with an emphasis on environmental issues andhow to utilize turfgrass in landscape, sports field and as home lawn for businesses. Students will also be taught on the adaptation of turfgrass and other ornamental plants and selected vegetable in landscape management systems for business and profit. Theories, principles and methods of landscaping, history of landscape, responsibilities of landscape manager etc. will also be included.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO):

1. Compare different turfgrass species and understand the adaptation of turfgrass to regional and climatic condition. (C4, PLO2)

2. Construct a landscape utilizing various species of landscape plants and turfgrass species. (P4, PLO3)

3. Practice basic principles and elements of landscape design into landscape of variety of spaces. (A2, PLO8)

This course will cover knowledge about the origin, classification, physical characteristics, chemical (pH and salinity of the soil) and soil biology. Knowledge in land use for irrigated farming, land leveling and land conservation will also be discussed. This course will also introduce the importance of water to sustainable living, agriculture and industry. The emphasis will be to crop water requirements, soil moisture, irrigation practices, water resources, hydrology and water quality. Knowledge of the design and operation of field irrigation, sprinkler and micro irrigation systems, fertigation system and agricultural drainage will be discussed. The course also will include agroclimatology, land use pattern, tropical land management, mechanization and labor requirement. In addition to formal lectures, the course will involve practical training in laboratory, workshop and field work outside.

This course discusses the grass and fodder which are used as livestock feed. At the beginning of the course, aspects of the examples of fodder crops, nutritional value of grass and legumes in terms of nutrient content will be touched. Cultivation methods and matters relating to soil science and agronomy will be discussed to explain the method to force the growth of grasses and legumes. Apart from the aspects such as the management of grass/weeds, including the production of grass/fodder, harvesting of grasses/fodder, processing of grasses/fodder and use of the product will be discussed. Pasture management and methods to add value to the grasses and fodder will be addressed.
