This course is a guided, teamwork-based community project that combines lectures, seminars, and a final seminar presentation. It focuses on contemporary issues in commerce and entrepreneurship in Malaysia and abroad, emphasizing creativity, idea generation, and new venture creation across different phases (startup, scale-up, hipster and hustler, ownership, pre-seed funding). Students will be introduced to lean enterprise methodologies, including tools such as the Lean Startup Canvas (LSC) and the Business Model Canvas (BMC), and will work in teams to generate commercial ideas, develop prototypes, and pitch them in an organised seminar series.

This course aims to build students' foundational knowledge and skills in design thinking through a human-centred approach. Core topics include idea generation, prototyping, and implementation, all driven by deep user insights. Students will be evaluated through a mix of theoretical and practical assignments. By the end of the course, students will be proficient in exploiting opportunities using the design thinking approach and crafting effective business plans and go-to-market strategies.

This course associates using design thinking as a human-centered process in exploiting opportunities. Students will evaluate potential opportunities by identifying the core areas of a business model and the importance of customer value proposition. The opportunities evaluation will be framed in the context of the business model canvas. In this sense, the course assists the students in positioning their roles in the go-to-market and pitching strategy. Students can deliver the right product concept for the right place, at the right price, and at the right time.

Macroeconomics is a branch of economics that studies the behavior of an overall economy, which encompasses markets, businesses, consumers, and governments.

This course introduces students to the Logistics Automation and Internet of Things used in logistics and supply chain industry, consisting of logistics tools and applications to increase efficient business processes in the logistics and supply chain environment.

This course emphasizes the role of creativity, innovation, and business management toward entrepreneurship strategies such as the identification and evaluation of venture opportunities, new venture strategies, planning strategies, and strategies for venture development. In addition, the focus would also be given to how entrepreneurship strategies are planned and implemented at different stages of the venture life cycle of venture development.

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of accounting concepts and the preparation of financial statements. Among the aspects that will be discussed are the basic concepts of accounting, journals, ledgers, trial balance, preparation of financial statements, adjustments, and more. Students will be assessed through theory and application-based assignments for each given topic. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the concepts of accounting and prepare financial statements.

Course Synopsis

This course allows students to learn the techniques of manipulating digital graphics, including 2-dimensional geometric models, texts, and digital images. In addition, it focuses on the basics of digital image processing and illustrations, such as colouring, sampling, vector and raster graphics filtering, charging, acquisition and 2D transformation. In lectures, students will be exposed to computer graphics (CG) topics during the tutorial and studio sessions, technical aspects and design processes will be carried out. As a result, the course will provide students with skills in computer graphics applications when used in the industry worldwide.

This course is about theoretical of planning, conducting, analyzing and present, orally and in written form a scientific assignment in the technology-based research. This course divided by three parts; research methodology (data analysis), scientific assignments and scientific writing. This course also gives an insight and understanding on ethics and sustainability of scientific research. The learners will learn to write a comprehensive research proposal and will be evaluated through an innovative assessment.

This course covers the instrumentation and techniques of analysis of environmental samples including water, soil and air samples, as well as interpretation. Analytical chemistry includes sampling techniques, extraction and preparation of samples as well as the preparation of standard solutions. Interpretation of the data will be discussed along with the relevant standards.

This course discusses on the basics related to environmental friendly technologies including green technology. Biological, chemical, physical-based approaches that are environmental friendly which contribute to the improvement of quality of life, will be discussed and supported by a number of examples such as conservation technologies for bio-recovery, incineration, composting, waste, contaminated soil recovery, forestry and coastal conservation.

Maklumat asas mengenai kumpulan organisma, taksonomi,fungsi dan structur asas sel serta keperluan organisma akan difahami pada pengenalan subjek. Selanjutnya, kitar biogeokimia akan diberikan penekanan yang mendalam untuk memahami peranan dan kepentingan organisma dalam alam sekitar.  Biojisim, biotransormasi dan bioremediasi turut diberikan perhatian sewajarnya. This course will expose the students to general aspect or environmental biology. Information regarding organism, taxonomy, function and basic cell structure can be understand during the introduction of the course. Biogeochemical cycle, biomass, biotransformation will also be emphasis throughout the course.    Next the application in medical, agriculture and industry will be discuss before proceeding to issues related to environmental biology. This course will train students to use knowledge in solving environmental problems and students can apply experimental findings to solve environmental problems.

This course discusses the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of soil for sustainable management. This course also discusses analysis methods for determining the level of pollution from various sources. The determination and effects of soil erosion and land reclamation are also discussed. Relevant case studies are introduced for exposure to real situations. 

This course discusses the environmental risk assessment process for different anthropogenic processes. The effects of dumping different waste materials on human health, environmental health and industry will be discussed. Students are taught about concepts and models of environmental risk assessment involving safety and health to identify the risk assessment process. 

This course incorporates the High Impact Education Practices (HIEPs) through an interdisciplinary approach to evaluation. The practise of research planning, analysis, and study conclusion in accordance with SDG 15—Life on Land—was emphasised throughout this course. In keeping with the 10-10 MySTIE strategy, the course will also place a focus on studies or research pertaining to socioeconomic factors – education and technological drivers - augmented analytic and data discovery. Following that, students must prepare a final year research report. A lecturer will supervise each student.

This course focuses on tropical biomass management as a whole. Students will gain knowledge about the principles and practices of biomass management in tropical ecosystems, with a particular focus on Malaysia's rich biodiversity and biomass potential. Skills in observation and calculation techniques and emerging technologies in practical training. This course will cultivate students to appreciate types of biomasses, management strategies, conversion technologies, and policy frameworks that support sustainable tropical biomass production integrated in diverse environments.

This course exposes students to the knowledge of the characteristics of watersheds and river basins aimed at sustainable resource allocation and the process of creating and implementing plans, projects and programs to maintain and improve the functioning of watersheds and river basins. Watershed functions can affect plants, animals and human communities within the boundaries of the watershed. Students will be introduced to watershed processes such as physiography, climate, rainfall, hydrological cycle, hydrogeology, hydrogeomorphology, reservoirs, lakes, rivers, marshes, and water quality. Students will be exposed to the management of watersheds and river basins by learning how upstream activities and resources are managed wisely so that downstream remains clean and healthy. The course will also focus on integrated basin and watershed management including policy, monitoring and evaluation, research and training to link people, land and water.

This course discuss on principles of tissue, cell and organ culture from plant origin, including factors that influence the maintainance of cells for their growth and development. Besides this, the course also focus on the components of tissue culture such as media composition, media pH, temperature, shaking and aeration rates of cultures. The goal of tissue culture technology course is to enrich the knowledge among the students to improve the production of artificial seeds, new hybrids, cross-breeding and production of secondary metabolite that is plant active substances, vaccines, antibodies and monoclones through tissue and cell culture technique.

Synopsis: This course consists of lectures and project sessions on topics pertaining unit operations in food processing. It provides fundamental knowledge of different techniques used in unit operations, such as size reduction, mixing, fluid flow, heat transfer and evaporation. Besides that, it also provides students with hands on experience in operating machines in a small scale food processing plant and ensuring students are exposed to the know-how of applying theoretical knowledge of unit operations within food industries.

Social entrepreneurship is an enterprise that uses the tools of business to create positive results for society at every level. By developing and deploying innovative solutions to neglected societal problems, social entrepreneurs improve communities that direly need intervention in order to facilitate or to address social and environmental problems. This social entrepreneurship course is carefully designed to blend theories and practices of walking the talk of social entrepreneurship. Students are exposed in theories of entrepreneurship as well as success stories of social entrepreneurs locally and internationally. In addition every single student needs to embark on a real social entrepreneurship projects through establishing business plans. Amongst other important things in their business plans are motivation to embark on the project, key strategic resources, as well as how they are going to execute them. At the end of the day, students will be evaluated from both oral and written exercises.

This course aims to introduce the students to the basic cost controls for food and beverage operations so that it will help students appreciate the important of controlling costs for maximizing overall profits of the relevant organization.  Students will also learn the basics of food and beverage cost control analysis, controlling purchasing, receiving, storing and issuing activities and also specific techniques and procedures as well as formats to be used in effectively controlling costs for food and beverage operation. Students will be assesed throughout the topics being taught by individual and group assignment, case study, midterm test and final examination. At the end of this course, student will be familiar with the cost control management in a food and beverage operations.

This course will develop students professional skills with basic knowledge and skills in the AI field, including basic theoretical knowledge about image processing, speech processing, and natural language processing (NLP), as well as the ability to develop AI products and general open-source frameworks. The course is comprising of deep feedforward networks, image processing theory and applications, speech processing theory and applications, NLP theory and applications, the image processing experiment, the speech processing experiment, and the NLP experiment. By the end of this course, students will be able to achieve the learning outcomes stated in the course learning outcomes section. 

This course is a review of fundamental skills for computing mathematics, which is essential for the study of algebra and numerical computations in data science, artificial intelligence and computer science in general. Students will undertake interactive lecture and lab hours, equipped with tutorial and discussion sessions. To ensure practical skills and experiences, powerful software tools such as MATLAB and Scilab will be used to prepare the students with the hands-on skills before completing the continuous assessments such as labs, test, assignment and project. The outcome of this course is to enable the students to apply the computing mathematics principles and formulas in computing and IT-related problems.

This course provides a strong knowledge of advanced algorithms and practical problem-solving skills. The topics and applications that plan to cover include a wide range of advanced algorithm design techniques including dynamic programming, linear programming, approximation algorithms, and parallel algorithms. The course also covers several major strategies in algorithm design such as the string algorithms, maximum flows, online algorithms, computational geometry and NP completes. Students should develop analysis skills to solve advanced algorithmic problems and application to real-world problems.

This course will discuss basic concepts of molecular biology, structure and mode of transport in cells, respiratory and photosynthesis processes as well as gas exchange occurring in plants and animals. In addition, students will be taught about control and regulation in systems such as the nervous system, hormones, homeostasis and the regulation of animals and plants. Reproductive systems, immunization, infectious, genetic diseases will also be discussed. In addition, issues related to biodiversity and ecology as well as biotechnology are also addressed to give students a clear understanding.

This course is the activities organized by students to meet the needs of the course. Through this program students are required to prepare a research paper. Further, students are required to make a presentation of the research results in the form of papers in a seminar developed by the students themselves. All aspects related to the preparation of seminars from the beginning until the documentation is organized and conducted by the students with supervision and monitoring of the lecturer of the course. Students as organizers and presenters papers are questioned answer related findings. At the end of the program, students are required to produce documentation and related seminar proceedings as the assessment of the course.

SYNOPSIS:

A cultural landscape is a physical area with natural features and elements modified by human activity resulting in patterns of evidence layered in the landscape, which give a place its particular character, reflecting human relationships with and attachment to that landscape. This course exposes students to the cultural landscape and the of art heritage. Focus will be given to the cultural landscape studies in relation to human settlements. The course will also provide knowledge and exposure to the local heritage and its landscape.

SGL3353 Research Methodology

SYNOPSIS:

This course exposes students with the research process from understanding on issue and problem, academic studies, data collection and analysis to solve the issue in landscape architecture disciplines. The used methodology includes data collection by documentation, survey, observation, and experiment. Research methodology involves with critical and systematic reading and evaluating in contributing to the better problem solving for living ecosystem.

Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

1.      Clarify the process of research methodology in collecting the information related to the design accurately (C2, PLO1)

Kursus ini merupakan kursus permulaan bahasa Arab (tahap II). Pada peringkat ini pelajar akan diperkenalkan dan dibimbing  dengan kemahiran asas mendengar, bertutur, membaca dan menulis bahasa Arab A1 (tinggi). Peringkat ini akan mengikut Common European Framework of References for Languages A1 (tinggi). Pelajar akan didedahkan dengan penerimaan (mendengar, bertutur, membaca dan menulis) menerusi latihan intensif. Pengajaran dan pembelajaran akan dilaksanakan dalam bentuk kuliah, tutorial, tugasan di dalam dan luar kelas. Pada akhir kursus ini pelajar dapat menguasai kemahiran mendengar, bertutur, membaca dan menulis pada tahap A1 (tinggi).

Kursus ini merupakan kursus permulaan bahasa Mandarin (tahap I). Pada peringkat ini
pelajar akan diperkenalkan dan dibimbing dengan kemahiran asas mendengar, bertutur,
membaca dan menulis bahasa Mandarin A1 (rendah). Peringkat ini akan mengikut Common European Framework of References for Languages A1 (rendah). Pelajar akan didedahkan dengan kemahiran bahasa (mendengar, bertutur, membaca dan menulis) menerusi latihan intensif. Pengajaran dan pembelajaran akan dilaksanakan dalam bentuk kuliah, tutorial, dan tugasan di dalam serta di luar kelas. Pada akhir kursus ini pelajar dapat menguasai kemahiran mendengar, bertutur, membaca dan menulis pada tahap A1 (rendah).

CLO1 Menggunakan kosa kata bahasa Mandarin dalam frasa, ayat dan petikan pada tahap asas rendah berdasarkan topik-topik yang dipelajari. (C3, PLO2)

CLO2 Membentangkan situasi harian dengan menggunakan ayat mudah pada tahap asas rendah dalam komunikasi lisan. (A2, PLO5)

CLO3 Membaca kosa kata bahasa Mandarin dalam frasa, ayat dan petikan pada tahap asas rendah berdasarkan topik-topik yang dipelajari. (A1, PLO2)
