This course is a guided, teamwork-based community project that combines lectures, seminars, and a final seminar presentation. It focuses on contemporary issues in commerce and entrepreneurship in Malaysia and abroad, emphasizing creativity, idea generation, and new venture creation across different phases (startup, scale-up, hipster and hustler, ownership, pre-seed funding). Students will be introduced to lean enterprise methodologies, including tools such as the Lean Startup Canvas (LSC) and the Business Model Canvas (BMC), and will work in teams to generate commercial ideas, develop prototypes, and pitch them in an organised seminar series.

This course aims to build students' foundational knowledge and skills in design thinking through a human-centred approach. Core topics include idea generation, prototyping, and implementation, all driven by deep user insights. Students will be evaluated through a mix of theoretical and practical assignments. By the end of the course, students will be proficient in exploiting opportunities using the design thinking approach and crafting effective business plans and go-to-market strategies.

The course is designed to provide students with essential knowledge and skills necessary for managing the innovation process across various organizations. It presents a modern perspective on innovation management, encompassing the creation of new products, services, and businesses, and delves into the intricacies of the innovation and technology process. The curriculum outlines the three critical phases of innovation: emergence, growth, and maturity, detailing their market implications. Additionally, the course elucidates the interplay between innovation processes and technology, including aspects of innovation strategy, commercialization, government innovation support, and foundational intellectual property concepts.

It pays special attention to the research process starting from identifying problems to interpreting research findings. It covers topics such as concepts and fundamentals in research, research design, data collection, sampling, measurement and data analysis. Students will be assessed through assignments according to a given topic. At the end of the course students will be able to understand how to conduct research and produce quality research proposals.
